Blog It Out

I love how on Grey's Anatomy whenever Meredith or Christina have a problem they "dance it out" Today I decided to take the advice of a very dear friend and blog it out. She's right, it's summer vacation, get back into it. Seems like a good idea besides, it's too hot to dance.

Geez, I don't know how you all are so good at regular blogging! I know that I am not the only one with a job, a house, a husband and pets. I doubt I'm the only one with a son, who I've nicknamed Velcro Kid for the mere fact that he's never very far away from me and seems to need my assistance every 30 seconds. Oh wait, I take that back since as I am typing this I see he is helping himself to some juice....straight out of the bottle. And I'm not the only one with a child who has a chronic illness. So the conclusion I have drawn is that it must be my yarn obsession that is taking up the tiny amount of spare time I have in life.

This is the first official week of summer vacation. I feel SO lucky to get paid to sit at home with my kids and do fun things with my yarn for 9 weeks! This week for the most part has been everything I had hoped it would be. I could have lived without the eye doctor appointment yesterday where I found out my corneas were swollen and had to switch to different contacts. But there are worse things in life for sure!

Evan's preschool went through today so Janelle and I got a little bit of a break from him which was nice. We got to hang out together and do girl stuff. Today we had our 3 month visit with the endocrinologist. Her A1C was every bit as bad as I expected it to be. After dealing with D for a while you pretty much already know what your "report card" is going to look like. We have not had good numbers and I have definitely not been good about keeping up on needed adjustments. I'm going to pass that blame on to the two newest members of our family who have taken up a lot of my time!

So her A1C went up from 7.3 to 8.2. Yikes! The good news is that we expected it to be high. I'd rather that than to think we're doing great only to get slapped in the face with a high A1C. We pretty much adjusted everything there is to adjust. Hopefully her numbers will get better.

My plans for the summer are to crochet and to read all FIVE of the books I bought this week! I will also be taking the kids to swimming lessons, going to Seattle and to Chicago. Oh, and maybe blog a little. I love Summer Leigh!

  1. I hope you blog along the way! I'm so happy to hear that you're out for summer and ready to enjoy life!

I know it's hard not to take that A1c personally. But, Leigh, you're a GREAT mom. That number does not reflect the awesome mother Janelle has been blessed with. It represents a mountain you must climb -- and every now and then you have to maneuver around a tough spot.

Much love to you, my friend!

  2. I'm not that good at keeping up with my blog either :)
Our 3 month visit is tomorrow and I'm almost positive my daughters A1c has jumped from 7.5 to somewhere in the low 8's. Starting the pump was great but I was not expecting it to take a full 2 months to get her basals set perfectly! But like you said it's good knowing before you go in so it's not such a slap in the face!
Hope you guys enjoy your summer, we still have a few more weeks of school here!

  3. For me blogging is like your crocheting. It's my hobby and a release. I'm good at blogging, but wish I could knit or crochet!

I'm with you on reading this summer. I rarely find the time to read physical books anymore. Though I do listen to audiobooks while I am at work.

Our last endo appointment gave us an A1c that I was not that happy about. I really thought it would be lower. But the good news is that it made us take a look at things and we found some places where we could try to improve.

    Take care!

  4. Happy to see you blogging it out! I hope you take some time to blog through the summer too.

Blogging is about the only thing that keeps me sane between the working, kids, husband, house, etc. Well, that, and Facebook. :)

    Enjoy your summer!

  5. Leigh,
    Life-us Overwhelmus is why I gave up on the blogging, and I don't even have a good hobby like you to blame it on! Believe me, having just lived through the last school year is reason enough to have things fall by the wayside (let's see, didn't you start the school year with about 150 students in your room)? {{hugs}}

Sending you wishes for a calm, relaxing summer that sees better numbers and easier days for you and your kiddos!

  6. Woman! An 8.2 A1C is rockin. When we got the boys A1C tested there was a sheet of paper with all the patients that came before us...there were about 10 names with 8 of them having A1C's above 9. You have no idea how wonderful you are doing! We always try to tweek one time of day at a time...if you try a complete overhaul it gets REALLY overwhelming. I hope the docs changes are spot on, and you can sit back and enjoy numbers you are happy with. :)

PS As always...completely jealous of your talent!

  7. You are not alone! I have so many blog posts swirling in my brain. I just can't seem to get them out! Life-us Overwhelmus, indeed! [I like that, Beth! :)]

Don't dwell on the A1C! We've all been there. We've all seen A1Cs that were higher than we'd like. You're doing great!

  8. I have sooooo been neglecting my blog lately too... =)
But you are right! Blogging it out is great!
I must say, thought - you may have inspired me to get out my crochet stuff - I have not done any in YEARS, but I remember the fun I had and the pride I felt when I finished my first scarf! My grandmother taught me when I was like 9... may be fun to get back to it a little this summer!
    Thanks for the inspiration!

  9. Hey chic! Sorry about the endo visit but, honestly, it could be much worse than 8.2 so don't be too hard on yourself!!! I think you are doing great and so I hope you give yourself some credit. HUGS!!! Enjoy your crochet! you do such a great job with it!

  10. Hi Leigh,
My 3 yr old son Addison has had type 1 since the age of 15 months. I know how you feel about the A1c not being what you had hoped for but I agree with the other gals - 8.2 is still great! You are doing just fine so don't be too hard on yourself.

  11. Wow, thanks Ladies! You are all so wonderful. Like Heidi said, I have lots of things I could blog about swirling around in my head, it's just about finding the time to sit and do it. But you have all inspired me to try to keep it up! I can totally see how this would be a great release and hope to be able to put down my yarn on a regular basis to stick with it ;-). Stay tuned!
